YR Friday 22nd May

Yet again we have reached the end of a very busy week. Firstly we would like to thank you for all your hard work and continued support. You are doing an amazing job and it is so great to see all that your children are experiencing. Please make sure that you ALL have a well deserved break over half term. 😊 There will be no work set.

Today we are looking at the blend ‘pt’. Write the words kept, wept, slept, swept, sculpt, script and erupt on a piece of paper and ask your child to draw the sound buttons. Encourage your child to read the words by stretching the sounds and then blending them back together.
Using the attached worksheet (which you can print or just use on the screen) look at the picture and discuss what can be seen. Emphasise words which could be used that have the ‘pt’ blend. Ask your child to write about the picture. Encourage them to think of one idea. This idea will be their first sentence. They should spell as independently as possible, using their basic code (letter line) and tricky words to help them. You may need to remind them to begin with a capital letter and end with a full stop. Once they have written their first sentence, they can write subsequent sentences in the same format, following on the same line after their first sentence ended but again beginning with a capital letter and ending with a full stop.

Play Poop deck pirates on choosing phase 4 and cvcc and ccvc word sets.  Don’t forget you can always revisit the games from the previous weeks:

To continue practising phase 3 sounds remember to use the following links:

Reading; Choose your favourite book. Read it with a grown up or your brother or sister. Choose your favourite page and talk about why you like that page. What makes it a good story?
Don’t forget to watch our story time videos!

Maths: Place value Numbers to 20;
Today I would like you to play the ‘make an exchange’ game again. If your child was a little unsure you can repeat it exactly as you did it yesterday. Children like the reassurance of consistency so using the same apparatus will help them to grasp a firmer understanding.
However, if your child grasped the concept yesterday, today you can repeat the game but use pennies for the ones and exchange them for a ten pence coin. Perhaps they could earn some pocket money this way!

Play shark numbers selecting numbers up to 20  Or continue to play Place value basketball selecting numbers up to 19

PSED – Gratitude Scavenger Hunt. There are lots of things that we should be grateful for. Talk to your child about what it means to be grateful and what things in life you appreciate. Explain that you are going to go on a Gratitude scavenger hunt. Have a look at the list. It may be easier to find something for each point one at a time. Perhaps you could record each of the things by taking a photo. These could be made into a Gratitude poster for your scrapbook!
Expressive Arts and Design – Point 7 on the scavenger hunt says ‘Find something that you can use to make a gift for someone’. What will you make? Who will you give it to? We can’t wait to see!
