World war II workshop wows!

On Thursday 9th January, the Year 6 children took part in a World War II workshop, run by the National Heritage, Taunton Museum.

It was a great morning, the children learnt all about the rationing of food and clothes during the war-torn times – they discovered that having pet rabbits was suddenly good business!!

They also discovered how the home guard put out incendiary devices, using a stirrup pump and how they communicated during the war, using Morse code. Inside an evacuee’s suitcase proved to be very interesting, as the children discovered what the evacuated children had to take with them, or rather the lack of it! Gas masks were tried on and shelter under the tables was taken when the air raid sounded!

All in all it was an interesting experience : the children learnt lots about this term’s topic.
