Raising Aspirations in Year 6
On Friday 10th September, Year 6 took part in an inspiring careers event which was held in the school hall- professionals from a wide variety of occupations were invited to take part in a Careers Carousel. They spoke to small groups of children, in turn, about the various aspects of their professional role – explaining what their job entailed, what career path they took to achieve their position and also what high and lows of their job they have experienced. In addition, some of the professionals brought in various items of equipment to show the children and explained what it was for and how it was used. These items ranged from maps and medical equipment to drones and a police car (which caused a great deal of excitement!). The aim for this event was to provide the children with ideas and possibilities for the future and to show them what oportunities could be on offer, later in their life.
The children made us very proud with their excellent manners and the respect and courtesy they displayed towards our guests – they asked some very astute and relevant questions and were extremely intrested in all the occupations represented. Over the next few weeks the children will be using the information and knowledge gained from the day to write some formal letters – our English focus for the first part of this half term.
We would like to thank all those who took part and gave up their time to make this a memorable event for our young people.
