E-Safety

Today we welcomed parents in to join us in our internet safety session.  We began by thinking about the times when we might need an adult’s help; to get something off a high shelf, to complete some tricky homework, to cross a road safely etc.  We then heard a story about Ben who got a new tablet from his Grandma.  His Mum wasn’t sure that he was old enough to be able to use it safely but Buddy the dog helped him to know when to ask an adult for help.  We learned the song:  (Sung to the tune of frere Jacques)

“Ask your grown-up,

Ask your grown-up.

Ask for help!

Ask for help!

Use your tablet safely,

Use your tablet safely,

Woof, woof, woof!

Woof, woof, woof!

The children learnt that they should not click on any pop-ups, even those that are promising them a prize or new games.  They could be fake or not age appropriate.  They learnt that they should not play on-line with people they don’t know…..these people are strangers and they wouldn’t talk to a stranger in the park!  They know that if they are ever unsure they should ask a grown up for help.

They also found out that there is a child friendly search engine called ‘Kiddle’.  It ensures that the content is appropriate for children.
